The Long Haul and the Broken Fan

Thu Jun 25, 2009, 8:55 PM
  • Mood: Optimism
  • Listening to: Cannibal Corpse - Carnivorous Swarm
As of the 15th of this month, I had gone to Southern Methodist University's 1st Mustang Monday campus tour of the summer from 8:00a.m.-4:00p.m. The original plan to continue my education was to enroll/attend the fall semester of this year, but what I had come to learn from a transfer student information session will set me back for quite a long time. I don't mind as long as I know that my path is clear. Anyway, my current transcript was able to pass the general admission process into SMU, but Bobby B. Lyle's School of Engineering, where I want to go for the computer science undergraduate program (then go on to SMU-in-Plano's Guildhall graduate program), has a different prerequisite subset. I need additional coursework under my belt, so here's what I've got to do:

Computer Science Requirement
1. Introduction to Programming or Beginning Web Programming (either is a prerequisite for the next class).
2. Java Programming.
3. Introduction to C++ Programming (a prerequisite for the next class).
4. Advanced C++ Programming.

Math Requirement
1. Precalculus (a prerequisite for the next class).
2. Calculus I (a prerequisite for the next class).
2. Calculus II.

It'll take me about 1 & 1/2yr. to get it all done, but I'll do whatever I need to do to get to where I want to be, which I'm sure will be more than worth it.

Anyway, other than all of that stuff, the fan on my HIS Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GDDR3 AGP4X/8X video card was dead. It wouldn't spin, even after I took my case apart to dust everything off. The card's temperature would be in the 60's and 70's in normal operation and in the 70's and 80's in a modern 3D game, but with a dead fan it'd climb up to 130 and force my computer to shut down, idle on the desktop or not (temperature in Celsius). It's all good now though, because I bought a Vantec Iceberq 6 premium VGA kit to cool the chip for a small $34.95 and free installation, and it's fine piece of supplemental hardware. The card's temperature is now in the 40's in normal operation and in the 50's in a modern 3D game, but I haven't put any real stress on it yet. I'll have to see what it can do with an intense game like Crysis.

Well, that's all for now, I guess. I'll be in touch.

Good taste in music ^__^ Whats your favorite band?

When God gives you Lemons, You find a new God!
Thank you. ;P I have quite the affinity for more extreme music, especially in metal and rap. :B I guess it's for a similar reason as to why people sky dive or hop on a roller coaster: for fun and a good rush. :o As for my favorite, that's a tough call. x.x I'd have to go with my current, new favorite: Origin, a crazy fast and technical death metal band from...of all places...Topeka, Kansas. XP

I'll say. :headbang: I don't meet people who are into that kind of stuff often enough, let alone furries. :B Thank you very much for the compliment on my gallery, by the way. ^^ I've seen your stuff too. I know that you haven't drawn for very long, but I think you're off to a good start and will get better in no time. Rock on, dude. :horns:

you, and Yes, I will get better in no time. Yeah, I've been called "that metal fur thingy" and so, I began the official turn of the century: "The Metal Furs Of The Apocalypse". lol =p

But yeah, Ive been into that stuff before I came into furries, and so..i'm that combination

:thumb126933699: I frown upon your shenanigans. I was not the one who saw me seeing you spill over that cup of drink. Now clean it or else no fun park for you.
